George Michael - MSG

Last night I was at THE BEST concert so far this summer season.....George Michael's return to MSG after 17 years! I rate this just a smidgen below Duran Duran's orig 5 member reunion back in 2003 at THE RITZ. For those of you that understand this comparison...last night's show was THAT AMAZING! I could not get over his voice...if I didnt know better I would think he was still a 25 y/o lipsinker. Yes, it was that perfect!
luckily, I bought a tix off of craigslist last minute...and was able to get an amazing seat for 1/2 the orig price. If I sat in the seats for what I actually paid - I'd be up in the 400's (but after last night's show - I'd get a nose bleed for George!)
from the second he walked out on stage - the crowd went nuts!
what was really great was that his stage extended about 35 rows into the audience, so even though I was across the garden - I saw crystal clear!
the crowd WENT INSANE when he put on the sexy cop uniform for "OUTSIDE"!

ok...so I've been told I'm a bit tone deaf - and yup - I now completly agree....but I've waited a very long time to hear EVERYTHING SHE WANTS live...and as you can hear - so has the rest of NYC!

Here is the set list for the THREE HOUR show:

  • Waiting
  • Fast Love/I'm Your Man
  • Father Figure
  • Hard Day
  • Everything She Wants

Staten Island vs. New Jersey

oh no they di-int!
(hand snap)
basically, the mayor of Belmar, NJ called Staten Island a town of "...Guidos who are always tanned to the color of coconut shells, and easily identified by their plumage: Armani Exchange on the males and satin shirts & skirts on the catfighting females...". OOOOOOHHHHH...don't make me choose - cuz I still got some guidette left in me to kick some jeresy shore butt!

Mamma Mia, The Happening & Get Smart

So, this has become the summer of seeing movies either opening night or as close to it as possible. This past Monday (July 14th) I went with Sherri to see a premier screening of Mamma Mia. My reaction? It was "ok...but too cheesy". Yes, even for me...and let me tell you - I LOVED, LVOED, LEVOD the play....I stood up and sung & danced during the encore just like everyone else (and even sung under my breath during the play), but the camp just didn't translate well to the screen. Even for this chick flick lover who adores ABBA!
A few weeks ago I went with Irene opening night to see THE HAPPENING. Unfor, I'll never get back those 2hrs back in my life. Not sure what the heck was going on, cuz I don't think Mark Wahlberg, Zooey Deschnal or John Leguizamo are bad actors...but in this movie - sorry, but they just were.
In fact - the movie suxed SOOOOOOO bad....when we walked out theater #1, we walked down the hall & right into theater #2 who was just beginning a showing of:
... now this movie had me in stitches from the opening monologue. Ironically, I was never a huge fan of the 1965 Get Smart ....but Steve Carrell is hysterical in this version of GET SMART!

Birdhouse Attack!

early this spring I put up a birdhouse in my backyard & it has attracted some really cools birds - red robins, bluebirds, etc. For the last week, I noticed every morning my birdhouse was leaning at a 45 degree angle & couldnt figure out why.
I finally nabbed the culprit red handed!
PUNK!

DMB - Camden

Another great addition to my summer concert series...took a 1/2 day off & drove down with Shannon down to Camden. I think what made this show awesome was that Dave seems to really be enjoying his jam with Tim. From the first beat of the DREAMING TREE opener I could feel that Dave really has his groove grinding into gear (like that illeration?). Another cool thing is that Tim Reynolds is now a permanent guitar fixture in the band & some of the covers that they are playing really are awesome...like Pink Floyd's MONEY and Neil Young's HEY HEY MY MY.

Set List:
  • Dreaming Tree
  • Gravedigger
  • Grey Street
  • The Maker
  • So Damn Lucky
  • One Sweet World
  • Jimi Thing
  • Crash Into Me
  • Money
  • #41
  • Sister
  • Everyday
  • Corn Bread
  • Louisiana Bayou
  • You Might Die Trying

talk about a woman scorned!

I heard about this on the 10pm news tonight....this woman, Trica Walsh-Smith, is in the process of getting a divorce from the guy who is the president of the Shubert Organization (yes, Shubert as in Broadway). Why plead her case in front of court, when she can air her dirty laundry on YouTube!!!!

Another FREAKY x-bus ride

So I'm on the bus coming home from work & it's half empty.
Sweet!
In fact, since it's still daylight out...I luck out with a seat in the first row (you know I HATE the second row). About 10 minutes after the bus pulls out this drunk foreign guy comes up front & starts questioning the bus driver about the signs over the windshield. You know the ones that say "No Eating / No Drinking / No Smoking / No Radio Playing". So, because I'm in the front row - I hear him say "is it ok if i talk on my cell phone". Ummmmm, whatever dude.

Two minutes later 2 guys come up to the bus driver, tell him there is a issue going on in the back & they want the police called. Right now! These guys are your not your typical vinnys - these guys are your average joe-schmo middle aged dudes...so I was kinda concerned.

Bus driver calls in & gives some code, ok - now I'm getting freaked out. Then he enters some code which I'm guessing is flashing on outside the front display...hello major freak out. Then he pulls over & announces we are going to wait for the state troopers to arrive. Ok - I'm in full blown freak out mode. I'm sitting in the front row & if this guy is nuts-o....I don't want to get hurt.

Five VERY LONG minutes later the troopers arrive. They board the bus & talk to the guy. Turns out he's just mean drunk (not even foreign - just couldn't form a sentence). They talk to him like he's an idiot & the end result is that the guys he was bothering sat up front (oh, did I mention that I moved to the all of a sudden LESS hated second row) and drunk dude stayed in back. When it came those guys getting off the bus, drunk dude walked towards the front & stood in the aisle-way & muttered.

Luckily I got off 2 minutes later & didn't look back.

I pay $4 for my bus ride & I provide my own entertainment (aka iPod)...I want a refund - I did NOT enjoy this show one bit!

long ride home

Last night we got hit with a really nasty snowstorm. My bus ride home is usually about 30 minutes, but since the roads were filled with white fluff & pretty darn icy....my driver went only 25 mph the whole way.
My bus pulled out of the depot at 7:10 & I didnt get home unitl 9:30!
The one saving grace is that I'm listening to a new audiobook & the bus was half empty, so i had the seat to myself.

life on the express bus

I had "ISSUES" this morning on my way to work: 6 mommies with 6 daughters (I'm guessing about 8 y/o) got on my express bus this morning.

Obviously, no one passed them the Express Bus Commuter Rules!

They got on the stop before the bus jumps on the expressway, so most of the group could not sit side by side. The all sat in aisle seats 4 deep with the remaining group in the last row.

I was situated in the 3rd to last row next to a window.

What was the problem? Well, I was surrounded - there was someone next to me, infront of me, behind me, etc.
and they talk...LOUD!
and they giggled....uncontrollably
and then the mommies passed around breakfast to the girls and the parchment paper that their bagels were wrapped in crinkled (not to mention the cream cheese smelled a bit).
and then the girls began to sing.....OIY VEY!
I couldn't take anymore (and only 10 minutes had transpired since they got on)

I politely let the mommy next to me know that "most of the bus was sleeping, so could they keep their voices down".
I was expecting a b*tchfest & I was pleasantly wrong :)
....they whispered - LOUD - but it was still better then before!
Somehow I even fell asleep right before i hit the Lincoln Tunnel ramp (zzzzzzz)

Bunny with Pancake on Head

Travel Expo

This weekend Randy & I went to the Adventures in Travel Expo that was held in one of the Piers along the Hudson River. It was HUGE - they had almost every single country represented & travel packages for every type of traveler, from a time share yacht to climbing the cliffs of Patagonia in Chile (which I am considering for next winter)
They also had a bunch of toys to play with.....like a rock climbing wall, a scuba tank & a rope ladder. Here is Randy heading up the 35 ft ladder:
once up, there is only one way down - take the zipline down the length of a football field
of course, there were some show-offs...check out this lady who was in 3" heels & the tightest jeans!
